Delicious Modak Recipe: A Sweet Treat for Ganesh Chaturthi

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup Rice Flour
  • 1 ½ cups Water
  • 1 tsp Ghee
  • ¼ tsp Salt

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup Grated Coconut
  • 1 cup Jaggery (finely chopped or grated)
  • 1 tsp Cardamom Powder
  • ¼ tsp Nutmeg Powder (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Poppy Seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling:
    • Heat a pan and add the grated coconut and jaggery.
    • Cook on a low flame until the jaggery melts and blends with the coconut.
    • Add cardamom powder, nutmeg powder, and poppy seeds. Mix well.
    • Cook until the mixture thickens. Set aside to cool.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • Boil water in a pan. Add ghee and salt.
    • Reduce the flame and add rice flour gradually, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
    • Cover and cook for a minute. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
    • Knead the dough until smooth and soft.
  3. Shape the Modaks:
    • Grease your hands with a little ghee. Take a small portion of the dough and shape it into a ball.
    • Flatten the ball into a disc and place a spoonful of filling in the center.
    • Gather the edges and seal the top, giving it a modak shape. You can use a mould if you have one.
  4. Steam the Modaks:
    • Place the modaks in a steamer and steam for about 10-15 minutes until they turn glossy.

How to Serve

Serve the modaks warm, slightly break them open and drizzle a little melted ghee on top make sure some gets into it as well. This enhances the flavor and adds a rich touch to the sweet treat.
