Share a hobby you’ve picked up recently — what got you into it?
I am still a novice at baking because I have only learned how to make a few recipes so far. I have also learned that baking is one of the most satisfying hobbies that I have ever had.
What got me into baking is the fact that all the food that comes in packages is in one way or another full of poison. I love bread but lately bread prices have gone up and the quantity of slices has gone down. Same with other baked goods. I wanted to see if there was a difference if I baked goods at home instead of buying it from the stores or bakeries.
The difference is huge! It tastes better, it is more filling and it is much cleaner than the alternative. The cost of making it is not that much more and it is superior to store bought goods.
I’ll admit that baking at home takes time and effort. It isn’t something we are able to do everyday. But in the past this was not the case. Maybe this is something we should consider when our health is at stake.
Baking as a hobby has taught me that measurement is crucial and one wrong measurement can change the outcome quite a bit. I added a quarter of a teaspoon more salt once and it changed the taste of the cake I made completely and it wasn’t bad but it was obvious. One can say baking is more of a science than it is an art. The learning process is iterative and there is always room for perfection. Local bakeries have my utmost respect because the work is unforgiving and can go to waste if it is not appreciated.
Here are some of the things I am proud of:

One more thing about baking or cooking in general is that it becomes easier to learn a new language as you are trying to figure out a way to understand the process of making the recipes and the names of the ingredients in that language. Its a catalyst to many other avenues in life. Cheers!
