Day 20 of the Cut

The day began like any other but my fruit of the day was Mango!!! My friend came through and now I have a dozen minus four mangoes in my house. My mom was skeptical at first about the mangoes being good because they were so cheap. I had my reservations too but I was more curious than skeptic because this was the first time I had purchased anything directly from the source. When the mangoes came in they were raw. It took a few days for them to ripen and even then I had to keep them in check because they didn’t change colour like the ones we are used to seeing in the market. Of course these are organic mangoes so there had to be some difference. These are also export quality so it would be similar to what you would find in supermarkets like Walmart or Wholefoods but much much cheaper. The size is larger than what the local markets sell here in India. The colour changes fast in the market variety of mangoes because of a chemical called carbide which is used to ripen fruits fast.

Once they ripened they looked similar but there were subtle changes.

As you can see there are dark spots on the mangoes those are because of humidity caused by dew drops on the farm. The hay keeps them dry but they still retain some moisture. It is essential to keep them dry as they ripen. These are still good to eat just not as aesthetic as we are used to seeing.

I was surprised to see the inside because my brain did not compute how these would turn out to be. I was happy that the gamble paid off. My mom could not stop before she had two mangoes. There is a good reason mangoes are called the King of fruits. Interesting fact about Mangoes- if you indulge in cannabis, mangoes will give you a heightened experience if you consume them about 30-60 minutes before you consume cannabis (subject to legality, reader discretion is advised).

I trained legs at the gym and lunch was dal with rice. Went for a walk in the evening. Day 20 was a success!
