Day 4 of the Cut

Day 4 of the Cut

The day started with a swim and that swim was welcome because its so hot here right now. Last night it reached 38 degrees Celsius and that’s at night; in the day it was 40! After a great swim I reached home and had a fruit bowl with milk.

My mom is transitioning to fruit bowls from toast and biscuits with her tea, so its a little difficult for her to drop the sugar rush immediately but surprisingly she is taking it well. Her entire life she has had dry rusk toast or sometimes biscuits with her tea as breakfast so when I told her that its unhealthy she absolutely did not agree with me.

However, she likes milk more than a cat so I lured her towards sweet fruit with milk. That way I can get her to eat healthier while keeping her energy levels the same. Its hard to convince the older generation that their food isn’t considered healthy anymore because it was actually healthy when they were younger. Its considered unhealthy now because the industries responsible for making these products have simply substituted the ingredients for cheaper, low quality and unhealthy ingredients that are ultra processed and to add to that they have infiltrated these products with dyes, preservatives and artificial food substitutes. Our local bakeries make the same quality biscuits that she used to have when she was younger but now its something she should avoid all together to keep her health in check. Especially sweets since she started diabetes medication two years ago. I have also put her on a basic body weight exercise and resistance band stretching routine before she starts her yoga class every day which has helped her get fitter in the last few months.

In the last four days I have found that my energy levels have gone up and I don’t get hunger pangs when I eat right. My food expenses have gone down significantly and I am in a much better mood. This change is something about which I have known for a long time but it was never implemented because of the several bullshit excuses I had then. I knew better but my brain is such a child when it comes to convenience. Its easily fooled and ripped off. Whatever, its going to be slow change but its worth it in the end. Whole foods are the way to go honestly. I can work longer hours now, I sleep better, my bowel movements are like clockwork and most of all my confidence is high as fuck! I have never felt better!

A combination of exercise and a healthy diet is always recommended and suggested in school but once we become adults its an afterthought. I still like my ice-cream and my fried foods and my snacks but since I have stopped eating them my brain has become much clearer. I have stopped procrastinating. I feel ready to face adversity. I don’t want this to stop because it feels like a super power.

Lunch was Eggs, Dal, Rice, Sweet Potatoes, Bitter Gourd and some leftover Spinach curry. It was filling and delicious.

I worked in the afternoon and went out walking in the evening. I had initially intended to go rucking this morning but the timings on Sunday are the same as they were pre-summer season so I went for a swim instead. In the evening I went for a walk instead of rucking because I almost forgot that I needed to incorporate active recovery in the Cut. Tomorrow I will be back to it and I learned that you need to be consistently climbing when you are rucking so I am going to find a way to do that as much as possible.

My ankles feel better after doing rehab work. I will continue to do it tomorrow onwards as I am seeing good results from it. I have to work on hip strength as well. I have some exercises lined up that will fit into my stretch routine after my weight training. Day 4 was a success!

whole foods really are the way to go. the foods are no longer the foods we used to eat, it’s so sad.

Support local organic farmers and prep home cooked meals. I believe it takes away the dependence on and the power of these corporations.

So many processed foods have added artificial ingredients and preservatives into food that wasnt there 30-40 years ago. Some things like chocolate here in the US tastes different than just 5 years ago. I want to be able to pronounce the ingredient list at least!

Yeah exactly! One solution is to boycott these products, support local organic farmers and prepare home cooked meals. It takes time and effort but its worth it for long term health.

Let's hear it!
