Day 24/75

Day 24/75

It is getting colder but the humidity is also high on occasion. I don’t understand this climate. Monsoon has not left but its conflicting with Winter. This morning when I woke up I looked outside and it was fine but by the time I was done taking a progress photo and finished my reading task and was about to head out to the gym it became very humid and as soon as I stepped into the gym it started raining heavily. I don’t understand what’s happening. Some might say its climate change but I like to keep my opinions reserved on such matters owing to a lack of correct information or rather owing to excess of misinformation.

After the gym I stepped out to swim. At the pool I met my friend Akhilesh who has been upgrading his swimming skills significantly and has been doing flips and all recently. I know how to do flips so I am going to start doing those as well.

Came home to eat a heavy breakfast and started to work. I worked until the late evening with a break for a few minutes in the middle. I headed out for my walk and my friend Apurva joined me. We had a heated argument over the Caste System and Reservation or Affirmative Action as it is called in some countries. I am not in favour of Reservation because I know its detrimental to society. I am a practical person but I respect his perspective. He has a lot of emotional arguments about it. But none of them stand the test of time. If the policies he mentions are implemented they will fail within days. I believe there should be a removal of Reservation and instead there should be loans for education and more opportunities for education to students.

My reasoning is that a person’s financial or family background should not hinder their progress. My second argument is that people should not be judged by the college they went to but rather the quality of their work. Merit is not something I endorse fully because on occasion merit can be tainted by a lack of evidence of work. A person can claim to have the qualifications and not have the body of work to show for it. So in that case their claim to be meritorious can be void. Another reason I don’t endorse it is that we end up giving educational institutions all the power when we endorse merits. They get to pick and choose who gets an education and who doesn’t when in reality a person can have the skills for a particular subject but is rejected because they don’t have skills in rest of the qualifying subjects. This applies to the job market as well.

Its a vast topic but it is crucial to the fundamental system of education. It needs a lot of discussion and further thought even on my part because I have not fully grasped the depth of the problem. But the jist of it is what I have stated above.

When I came home from my walk I finished my gallon of water. I did not lose weight but I did not gain any weight either. In my progress pictures, I feel like I am looking slimmer but in reality I can’t tell because the data states otherwise. I am playing this guessing game because I don’t have the means to do a body fat percentage test where I live. I don’t trust the Navy method because the error percentage is +-4% which I feel is too high. Either way I am sticking to the process for now and we will see what happens. Day 24 was a success.
