et tu 72?

et tu 72?

Day 72 went by so fast it was a blur. I went swimming this morning and met my friend Apurva. He hasn’t gone swimming in a long time and has been out of practice lately. So we altered the course by shortening it. It was still an exhaustive drill so the workout was good. Lunch was chapatis and chicken curry. I also had some chikoos this morning. Took progress pictures in the morning and read ten pages in the afternoon.

Went for a walk in the evening. Its a Sunday so I took the day off. We watched Thrash on Netflix in the afternoon. It was alright nothing about it stood out like other disaster movies. Still a fun entertaining watch. We finished watching When Life Gives You Tangerines recently and the ending was exactly what I thought it would be.

Its actually very relatable because my mom and her parents went through something similar and my family is from the western coast of India so we could totally relate to the fishing community of Jeju island.

Of course there are some things which are different but Yang Gwan-Sik was so much like my father it was uncanny. The only difference between them was that my father earned a college degree and in turn traveled more in life thanks to his job and he had an arranged marriage which became arranged love as that relationship grew. Both Gwan-Sik and my father grew up near the coast in the country side. Both of them did physical labour growing up. Both of them loved eating fish. Both of them were loved and were highly respected in society. Yang Gwan-Sik’s whole life was almost like a caricature of my father’s which left me in a sort of melancholy in want of spending more time with him. I understand he had responsibilities and he stuck to them till the very end. He was loyal to my mother and stuck to his duty which is something he has instilled into me and I am grateful for my moral compass without which I wouldn’t have the principles I have today. He also gave me plenty of opportunities to waste and I regret not taking some of them because they were quite lucrative but at the same time he made me independent enough to navigate my way through life. I will miss him always but then again I do wish we spent more time together. I don’t have any siblings so I can’t really talk about him with anyone other than my mom who sees him very differently than I do. May he rest in peace.

Drank the last of my gallon of water when I came home from my walk. Day 72 was a success.

Thanks! 😊 He was actually funny without trying haha. One time he swallowed his platinum tooth while eating. The food was spicy and he started getting hiccups and then he looked at me all red eyes and I asked what happened he said he swallowed his platinum tooth. He waited a day for it to pop out in the washroom and then went and said that it was an expensive shit lmao.

Let's hear it!
