We stumbled upon Sasarwadi in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai purely by chance, and boy, are we glad we did! From the moment we saw the massive wooden and glass door, we knew we were in for a treat. The warm welcome we received instantly put us at ease.

Our Experience

The restaurant’s interior was an absolute delight. The paithani saree-inspired upholstery on the seats was a stroke of genius. The combination of traditional and modern elements, like the glass-topped paithani tablecloth, was simply stunning. The warm sunlight streaming in through the glass wall overlooking the plants outside created a cozy ambiance that was perfectly complemented by the bright colors of the decor.

But it wasn’t just the aesthetics that impressed us. The attention to detail was incredible. The traditional teak wood furniture, the large painting of Marathi women in a traditional kitchen, and the beautifully crafted lampshades – everything screamed authenticity. It was like stepping back in time while enjoying the comforts of modern dining.

Now, let’s talk about the food! We ordered the Surmai and Chicken thalis. The presentation was as impressive as the ambiance. The heavy brass plates, glasses, and spoons added to the authentic feel.

The fish thali was a seafood lover’s dream. The Surmai fry was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, the perfect balance of textures. The prawns gravy was a bit sweet for our taste, but the prawns themselves were delicious. The fish curry was a flavor explosion. We couldn’t stop raving about it!

The chicken thali was equally impressive. The fried chicken was a revelation. It was crispy, juicy, spicy, and tangy all at once! The chicken sukka was tender and flavorful, though again, a bit on the sweet side for our preference. The chicken curry was a classic Maharashtrian delight. Both the fish and chicken curries were great when combined with Indrayani rice.

The bhakris were soft and fresh, the perfect accompaniment to the curries. The sol Kadhi was refreshing and the besan laddoo was a delightful end to the meal.

But the highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the Modaks. It transported us back to our childhood, filled with sweet memories of Ganpati festivals.

We left Sasarwadi with full stomachs and happy hearts. It’s clear that a lot of love and care has gone into creating this special place. If you’re in Kharghar, do yourself a favor and visit Sasarwadi. You won’t regret it!
