My city was pretty clean back in the day and it had no air pollution. Recently a new airport was built nearby. Economically speaking this is a good thing. It brought more people into this city and many more are still migrating here. People are bringing businesses and jobs with them.

As it is in all cases good and bad things come together. The roads are congested with traffic and full of potholes. There is trash everywhere. The demand on water and electricity has gone up so there are shortages. Some people are actually regretting moving here. The government is not competent enough to handle these matters and the people are not sensible enough to take their own measures.

I have seen grown educated men throw away trash from their vehicles and its a little disappointing. If we as people simply followed the 3Rs- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle-  as we learned them in school the situation would be so much better. Having the education and applying it is so far apart it hurts my mind.

We need to keep our water sources clean instead of throwing trash into our rivers. We need to keep our streets clean to set an example for our children. We need to ban tobacco use because it doesn’t do any good to anybody. We need to stop taking bottles of alcohol to beautiful places and leave them there when we have had the fun. We have to start caring about the next person in line. If we leave a place as clean as we found it if not better then we as a society will improve. We need to start cleaning up after ourselves. No government or corporation can teach us or force us to do that. We hold ourselves accountable.

We dream of being a first world country but we refuse to improve on the basics. How absurd is that? Cleanliness is a grassroot problem and needs to be treated as such. I am not religious but in my humble opinion you can’t claim godliness if you don’t practice cleanliness.
