Day 40/75

Day 40/75

I have made a resolution to look for one positive thing to talk about each day. I know I need it for a better perspective on life. I have been sleeping late consistently and for years I refuse to use an alarm clock because I wake up in 7 and a 1/2 hours regardless of whether I use an alarm clock or not. So I ditched that. Coming back to the positive thing that happened today, I managed to defeat a woman talking on her phone. Hear me out.

I have a theory. I strongly believe that the fastest walkers on the planet are women who walk while talking on the phone. My observation is such that their strides are directly proportional to the type of conversation they are having. I have never been able to beat them on my walks. They can be having any conversation and that really is none of my business; but when I am walking on my path if I come across one of them I usually try to pass by them as subtly as possible. You will be surprised how fast they cover ground despite walking in zig-zags! Its actually hilarious! Once I was trying to walk past one woman and she suddenly burst into an argument. As soon as I reached by her side to surpass her she increased her pace and I was left in the dust! I mean what the hell was that? I consider myself a decent walker. I am not slow by any means and if I am determined enough I can easily put behind competitors. I have only become faster since I lost weight. I have successfully defeated parents taking their babies out on strollers, pregnant women, children on bicycles, senior citizens, street hawkers, disabled people and beggars. But the one I could never beat was a woman on a phone. I tried my best and failed many times. The elusive rival beat me every time. This time I was determined. I was in the park and I walked fast. I had finished all my tasks for the day, I had taken my progress picture, I had finished my reading task, I had a perfect workout session at the gym, I had eaten a lunch the gods would approve of and I had also accomplished my work tasks. The only thing remaining was this person who needed to be defeated. I don’t always come across such a worthy opponent but tonight was my chance!

I sped through the crowd walking as fast as I could. I jumped hoops and hurdles to get close beside her but she had tricks up her sleeve! Her counterpart on the phone told her a joke and she jumped! Her pace got even faster I was left behind and I really wanted this so bad. I increased my speed but then a senior citizen with a cane came in my way and I was flabbergasted by the strange smile on his face, almost as if he wanted me to fail. But I was determined as she went faster and faster I too gained on her and closed the gap. Just then a baby came hopping out of the bush and I pretty much jumped over her. All my rivals were closing in on me and I still made pace.

I had had enough and I was ready to make the final move. I came across a corner. I decided to cut it. I rushed and as soon as she was about to reach the turn I took the inner arc of the bend and slid past her. She did not see me coming cause they never do to be honest. She was on her phone. But the feeling of finally being able to defeat a woman talking on her phone is of great magnitude. I truly believe this was a worthy cause because right now serotonin is gushing through my veins (I hope that is correct- I am not a doctor.). That was a positive thing that was the highlight of my day. I came home and finished my gallon of water as a reward. Day 40 was a success.
