Jui Gaon Hanuman Temple: A Celebration of Agri Heritage

While exploring the vibrant culture of Panvel, Navi Mumbai, we recently had the opportunity to visit the Jui Gaon Hanuman Temple. This magnificent structure, constructed by the local Agri Samaj (Agri Community), serves as a powerful symbol of their rich traditions, unwavering dedication, and progressive spirit.

The Agri Samaj holds a significant place in Panvel’s history. Traditionally, they have been experts in salt and spice harvesting, as well as adept in the fishing industry. Over time, their entrepreneurial spirit has led them to diversify into real estate, hospitality, and construction, making them a vital force in Panvel’s development.

Inaugurated during Hanuman Jayanti just recently, the Jui Gaon Hanuman Temple embodies the essence of the Agri community. The temple houses beautiful statues of both Hanuman and Krishna, reflecting the community’s deep-rooted faith and cultural heritage. It serves as a focal point for the community, hosting various festivals and events throughout the year.

Interestingly, the temple breaks away from certain traditional practices. While some Hanuman temples in India restrict entry for women due to the deity’s association with celibacy, the Jui Gaon Hanuman Temple welcomes everyone. This progressive approach highlights the forward-thinking nature of the Agri Samaj.
