How do you write what people actually want to read?
I write what I want. I used to write for an audience and came to the rude realisation that people don’t read as much as they used to. Now I write what comes to mind and people have started to listen. Its not always supposed to be catered to someone because eventually the information has to be useful. If its not true people are going to ignore the information. I can’t expect or force people to read my work.
Novel writers come across this issue a lot where they aren’t able to find someone to read and critique their work. Paying a professional can get expensive and self correction can go only so far. So the solution is to write on a public forum and curate your style. I have the skills to write formal and informal articles and on this site alone I have posted over 700 articles but only about 20% of them have been read. Goes to show you how it can be a tedious task to find an audience.
Now after 2 years my work is gaining traction and more people are interested in reading my work. It isn’t perfect and it will never be. As long as the work ia genuine and the information is useful and entertaining there will be an audience. I have a lot of people to thank for it- I won’t take any names- but the community you create helps you build your style and it influences your work a lot. Keep at it! Cheers!
