Nuance

What’s a lesson you’ve learned recently that shifted your perspective?

For me being detail oriented did not come naturally and I learned it as a skill over time. However for a long time I failed to see how certain details fit into a method or process. I realised that using tacts or nuances are necessary to get a process working. It requires creativity and it requires finesse both of which are acquired with practice.

For example we recently renovated our home and had some roofing work done over the balconies. The first monsoon was great but the second monsoon we discovered a leak. I figured it was water leaking from the gap between the roof and the wall. Upon inspection I found out that it wasn’t just that. The water was not leaking down the wall it was leaking into the wall between the tile work and the window head. The water seeped into the concrete from a tiny gap above the roof and trickled down through the window head. The fix is the same which is sealing the gap but the nuance explained the gravity of the situation. A leaky concrete wall over time will cause structural damage. Luckily this is separate from the actual structure of the building. So the damage won’t be severe if ignored. Now that I have a solution I can have it fixed. We live on the fifth floor so I won’t fix it myself. So hiring a professional will be my best option.

I assumed the water was seeping through here.
I learned that the water seeping through between the window head and the tiles.
Water seeping down the inside of the window.
Water droplets inside the apartment.

The repair is not expensive and it is a small problem for now. If I ignore it over time then I might face problems. Nuance allows me to find a solution and execute it with a plan.

Nuance is something I have learned recently and I am practicing it as much as possible.

Yup! Its a shame I can’t pull out my cement kit though. Plus I refuse to climb out the window at 100ft hehe. Happy Independence Day btw! Enjoy the fireworks!

Let's hear it!
